Ben's Boot

The neighbours are banging on the door again. Short, hard, impatient. "It has to go!" they shout through the letterbox. "That thing in the garden. It's against the rules!"

That thing in the garden is Ben's Boot - Ben's grave. Ben was Giel's older brother, but he is no longer here. He didn't look left when crossing the street. Or right - Giel can't quite remember. For Giel and his parents, the boat feels like a way to keep Ben close. The neighbours see it differently: they find it dirty, weird, dangerous. Not Normal!

Ben's Boot is based on the book of the same name by Pieter Koolwijk and explores love, loss, and dealing with big emotions. Ayla van Summeren and Willemijn Böcker bring the story to life with humour, music, and grotesque characters. Author Pieter Koolwijk on the production: "I believe in the power of this story. A story that might come into its own much better on stage."
