VIER x VIER | Theater aan de Rijn

VIER x VIER (14+) presents four short dance performances by emerging choreographers, selected and mentored by Theater aan de Rijn. The programme showcases a diverse range of backgrounds, styles and cultures - from hip-hop to contemporary and beyond.

Amisha Kumra is an Indian movement artist based in Norway. In peeling my purple onion, she explores with musician Ciro M. Goudsmit the balance between learned and intuitive movement, through chakra frequencies and the rhythms of kathak, hip-hop and house. The breathing technique pranayama forms the connecting force between live music and dance.

Peeled Collective - Arnhem-based makers Emma Hanekroot and Emma Versluys - presents het vouwen van stemmen (the folding of voices), a dance theatre piece about transgenerational trauma. Poetry by Emma Hanekroot and inspired visual art by Emma Versluys form a surrealist dance duet.

Niek Vanoosterweyck dances in click with interactive laser and sound effects. Inspired by the power and emotion of anime, the piece explores creation and inevitable destruction.

Ibrah Silas Jackson, director and choreographer with roots in hip-hop, funk and African cultures, investigates in Unravel Threads the effects of peer pressure, external influence and performance anxiety in young people. Three dancers from different styles search for authenticity and self-empowerment.
