Mahsa Vahdat & Tord Gustavsen
Mahsa Vahdat and Tord Gustavsen create an intimate meeting of Persian melodies, contemporary jazz, and Norwegian folk traditions.
Tord Gustavsen (Oslo, 1970) is a Norwegian jazz pianist and composer who has recorded exclusively for ECM Records for over two decades. Raised in rural Norway on a diet of church music, he later studied jazz at the Trondheim Conservatory before becoming one of the most distinctive voices in European jazz. His early trio trilogy - Changing Places, The Ground and Being There - brought him international recognition for a sound rooted in Nordic lyricism, gospel and Baroque influences. Seeing (2024), his tenth ECM release, continues that lineage with the same quiet intensity.
The album Seeing was released in October 2024 on ECM Records - Gustavsen's tenth studio album with his trio, featuring Jarle Vespestad on drums and Steinar Raknes on double bass.
The trio toured through Europe in autumn 2024 and winter 2024/25 to promote Seeing, with concerts in, among others, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Norway.
Tord Gustavsen is scheduled on 19 November 2025 at SPOT De Oosterpoort in Groningen.
