About

The Ocean (also known as The Ocean Collective) is a German post-metal band founded in Berlin in 2001 by guitarist and songwriter Robin Staps. Operating as a fluid collective - more than forty musicians have passed through its ranks - the band is celebrated for ambitious concept albums tied to geological eras and philosophical themes, including the Phanerozoic diptych and its conclusion Holocene (2023). After a sweeping lineup overhaul in 2024-2025, The Ocean returns in 2026 with a fully rebuilt roster and their twelfth studio album, Solaris.
