Good Golly Miss
A musical exploration of Joyce's Ulysses with cellist Frances-Marie Uitti and composer Rolf Wallin. Uitti performs on her aluminium and electronic cello while Wallin provides electronic elements.
Rolf Wallin (Oslo, 1957) is a Norwegian composer, trumpeter and avant-garde performance artist, widely regarded as one of Scandinavia's leading contemporary composers. His music fuses rigorous mathematical structures - fractal algorithms, his own 'crystal chord' technique - with a raw physical energy that keeps it from ever sounding merely academic. Trained at the Norwegian Academy of Music and later at the University of California, he won the Nordic Council Music Prize in 1998 for his Clarinet Concerto. His output ranges from chamber music and orchestral works to music theatre and installations, culminating so far in the opera Elysium, premiered at the Norwegian National Opera in 2016.
On 22 May 2026, the Canadian Acenta Ensemble gave the North American premiere of Large Bird Mask in the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall at the University of Victoria.
On 13 March 2026, Simax Classics released a new album with Wallin's viola concerto Under City Skin, performed by Lars Anders Tomter and the string ensemble 1B1.
Wallin's Concerto for Sheng and Orchestra - co-financed by Philharmonie Zuidnederland - was performed in March 2023 in Eindhoven and Utrecht with soloist Wu Wei.
Wallin's first opera Elysium, with a libretto by Mark Ravenhill and directed by David Pountney, premiered in March 2016 at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo.
