About

Peter Ablinger (1959-2025) was an Austrian composer known for his radical exploration of sound, silence and noise. Born in Schwanenstadt, he first studied graphic arts and jazz piano before turning to composition under Gösta Neuwirth and Roman Haubenstock-Ramati, settling in Berlin in 1982 where he lived and worked for decades. His output sits at the crossroads of conceptual art and contemporary music, anchored by the long-running cycle 'Weiss/Weisslich' on white noise. 'Book of Returns' is one of the pieces built around repetition and memory; in 2019 he was also a guest professor at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and Leiden University.
