Good Golly Miss
A musical exploration of Joyce's Ulysses with cellist Frances-Marie Uitti and composer Rolf Wallin. Uitti performs on her aluminium and electronic cello while Wallin provides electronic elements.
Frances-Marie Uitti (Chicago, 1946) is an American cellist and composer who has fundamentally expanded the possibilities of her instrument. She invented a two-bow technique - holding two bows in one hand - that allows the cello to sustain true polyphonic writing for the first time. Composers including Giacinto Scelsi, György Kurtág, Luigi Nono, Louis Andriessen and Jonathan Harvey have dedicated works to her; The Guardian called her 'arguably the world's most influentially experimental cellist'. She also founded the Bhutan Music Foundation, which awards 22 scholarships annually to children who could not otherwise afford music education.
Uitti released the album 'unified field' on the label Strange Strings, a trio recording with harpist Milana Zarić and pianist Elisabeth Harnik, recorded during a live broadcast for Radio Belgrado.
The album 'unified field' was reviewed by The Free Jazz Collective, which highlighted the collaboration between cello, harp and piano as an exploration of layered textures and rhythm.
Uitti was Fellow at Civitella Ranieri and produced 200 ceramic resonators for her work 'Stornelli Storti'.
