About
corto.alto is the Glasgow-based jazz project of multi-instrumentalist and composer Liam Shortall, who grew up in Dumfries and was the youngest-ever graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The band weaves jazz together with hip-hop, dub, electronica and broken beat, and broke through with the debut album Bad With Names (2023), which earned a Mercury Prize nomination. In 2025 the ensemble won two Jazz FM Awards - UK Jazz Act of the Year and the Innovation Award - and in 2026 the second studio album SOME SMALL FORTUNE arrives on Ninja Tune.
