Sunflower & guests

Drummer and composer Joost Lijbaart presents the album Love Letters with the trio Sunflower and special guests. After more than 35 years in jazz, improvisation and world music, Lijbaart (58) returned to the core of making music: attention, simplicity and genuine connection. This quest led him to singer and songwriter Amelie Spinks (22) and bassist River Adomeit (28), with whom he forms the trio Sunflower. Playing with these young musicians brought a new freedom and vulnerability to his work - for the first time he consciously lets go of much of his virtuosity and chooses simple grooves and a warm, open sound.

The songs on Love Letters explore care, closeness and the quiet power of love. In pieces like If I Was a Woman and Eight Hands on a Black Cat, Lijbaart examines empathy, loss and the need to truly see each other.

Sunflower performs with guests: Wolfert Brederode (piano / harmonium), Tim Langedijk (guitars - acoustic & electric), and Alexander Oliver (spoken word).
