Burning Spear is the stage name of Jamaican roots reggae singer Winston Rodney, born on 1 March 1945 in Saint Ann's Bay. His music is steeped in Rastafari philosophy and the Pan-African teachings of Marcus Garvey, themes he has carried across more than five decades of recording and performing. A two-time Grammy winner - for *Calling Rastafari* (2000) and *Jah Is Real* (2009) - and thirteen-time nominee, he is widely regarded as one of reggae's most enduring and influential voices. His 1975 album *Marcus Garvey* remains a landmark of the genre.
Burning Spear released the live album *Call on Me* on April 14, 2026, a collaboration project with artists such as Big Youth, Luciano, Jesse Royal and Ziggy Marley - for the first time in his career he collaborates so extensively with other reggae musicians.
Part of the proceeds from *Call on Me* go to the victims of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.
The live album was recorded during the 'Do the Reggae Tour' in autumn 2025, on which Burning Spear performed together with Ziggy Marley.
Burning Spear performed concerts in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Kenya in October 2024 as part of the 'One People Africa Tour'.
In August 2023, *No Destroyer* was released, his first studio album after his announced retirement in 2016; the album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2024.
