On Saturday, September 5, Xinix opens the new season with Defunkt - the New York band founded in 1978 by trombonist and vocalist Joseph "Joe" Bowie.

Defunkt is considered a pioneer in blending mainstream music with experimental sounds. The band's lineup has changed regularly over the years, but Bowie has remained the driving force. After five years away, he returns to write a new chapter. The current band features Joseph Bowie (trombone & vocals), Andrea Glochner (bass trombone), Twan van Gerven (guitar), Kypski (turntables, also known from C-mon & Kypski), Wladimir Geels (bass guitar) and Greg Smith (drums).

Joseph "Joe" Bowie is an American trombonist and vocalist from New York, best known as the founder of Defunkt, the band he started in 1978. Through Defunkt he helped pioneer the fusion of funk with jazz and experimental sounds. He is also the brother of Lester Bowie, the saxophonist of the Art Ensemble of Chicago.
