On his ninth album 'Achteraaf Bekeke', Ton Engels returns to the village, streets and people of yesteryear. With new songs, warm melodies and sharp observations, he captures the everyday life of the 1950s and 1960s.

In the theatre programme of the same name - together with Eric Coenen - he brings that era back to life: washing lines in the garden, mopeds in the square, neighbourhood shops, Sundays at grandmother's house and stories that circulated before television arrived. The album forms the basis of the performance, but Ton tells, sings and reflects around it in his own way: honest and straightforward.

'Achteraaf Bekeke' is not a retrospective, but a reliving - a musical monument to the time that shaped us.
