The Cycle of Love
The Cycle of Love tells a true love story still retold in Swedish schools. In 1975, young Indian PK falls in love with Swedish Lotta. When she returns home, he sets out on a second-hand bicycle - with barely any money - on a journey of over 10,000 kilometres to find her again. Through unknown lands, over mountain passes and endless landscapes, always dependent on the people he meets along the way.
PK is a dalit, an "untouchable": born at the bottom of the Indian caste system and destined for a life of poverty and exclusion. At his birth, an astrologer made a remarkable, almost impossible prediction about his future beloved. Meeting Lotta in New Delhi seems to confirm that prophecy - but when she fails to keep her promise to find him, that becomes very much in question.
Oscar-winning director Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helmets) retraces the journey, together with PK and a young actor who portrays him. Through reconstructions, interviews and encounters along the way, he weaves past and present into a film about love, humanity and perseverance.
