Primavera

The Italian period drama Primavera is set in 18th-century Venice. Twenty-year-old Cecilia (Tecla Insolia) is a talented violinist who has lived her entire life in the orphanage Ospedale della Pietà. Art opened her eyes, but not the doors of the orphanage - she is only allowed to perform there, behind a grille for wealthy patrons. Marriage seems like the only way out, until a new violin teacher shows her a different life: Antonio Vivaldi (Michele Riondino). Under his guidance, she finds the courage to forge her own musical path.

The film is based on the novel by Tiziano Scarpa and is the feature film debut of opera director Damiano Michieletto. Primavera was selected for the Toronto Film Festival and won three David di Donatello awards: Best Music, Best Sound and Best Costume.
