Film By The Sea: Everybody Digs Bill Evans

Podium 't Beest participates annually in Film By The Sea as a satellite venue, screening a curated selection from the festival programme. Tonight's film is Everybody Digs Bill Evans, the latest work by director Grant Gee. Gee is known for documentaries including Joy Division, Meeting People Is Easy (about Radiohead), and 30th Century Man about Scott Walker. Everybody Digs Bill Evans is his first full-length feature film. Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian gave the film four stars.

The story takes place in June 1961 in New York City. Bill Evans forms his perfect trio and records two groundbreaking albums - but his bassist dies shortly after, deeply affecting Evans. The film follows him as he struggles to overcome his grief and return to music. Evans is played by Anders Danielsen Lie, with Bill Pullman and Laurie Metcalf in supporting roles.
