Josee Koning
Singer Josee Koning celebrates sixty years of Sergio Mendes' music with the programme "60 Years of Brasil '66 - The Music of Sergio Mendes". Together with singer Egle Petrosiute, she performs the work of Mendes (1941-2024), who in the 1960s blended bossa nova, samba, pop and jazz into a distinctive sound that put Brazil on the world's musical map.
The repertoire includes Mendes' Brazilian arrangements of classics such as The Fool on the Hill (The Beatles) and Scarborough Fair (Simon & Garfunkel), as well as material from his later career - 35 albums in total, awarded multiple Grammys and an Oscar nomination. In 2006, he brought Mas Que Nada back to the international charts together with the Black Eyed Peas.
Josee Koning and Egle Petrosiute are accompanied by pianist Hans Vroomans, drummer Yorán Vroom and Brazilian bassist Matheus Nicolaiewsky.
