Film By The Sea Door Het Jaar: The Cycle of Love
The Cycle of Love tells a true love story still retold in Swedish schools today. In 1975, young Indian PK falls in love with Swedish Lotta. When she returns home, he sets out on a second-hand bicycle - with barely any money - on a journey of over 10,000 kilometers to find her again. His path takes him through unknown lands, over mountain passes and across vast landscapes, constantly dependent on the help of people he meets along the way.
PK is a dalit, an "untouchable" - born at the bottom of India's caste system and destined for a life of poverty and exclusion. At his birth, an astrologer made a remarkable, almost impossible prediction about his future beloved - and meeting Lotta in New Delhi seems to confirm that prophecy. But when she fails to keep her promise to find him, that becomes very much in question.
Oscar-winning director Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helmets) retraces the journey, together with PK and a young actor who portrays him. Through reconstructions, interviews and encounters along the way, he weaves past and present into a film about love, humanity and perseverance.
