The Skints — Simplon, Groningen

The Skints is a four-piece from London that blends reggae, ska-punk, dub, grime, hip-hop, soul and dancehall into a distinctive sound - uplifting and melodic, yet with hard-hitting and politically charged lyrics.

Formed in 2007 by secondary school friends Marcia Richards, Joshua Waters Rudge, Jamie Kyriakides and Jonathan Doyle, the band emerged from the ska-punk scene of Northeast London. Their self-titled debut EP and first album Live, Breathe, Build, Believe (2009) built a loyal following that tracked them from the squatter scene into the touring underground circuit. After Part & Parcel (2012), they signed to New York reggae and dub label Easy Star Records. The album FM (2015) was well received both commercially and critically, supported by an extensive American tour with acts including Sublime, Easy Star All-Stars and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

In 2019, Swimming Lessons arrived - a more introspective record featuring 8-bit dancehall and melodic grunge influences, with guest contributions from Grammy-nominated Jamaican reggae artist Protoje, freestyler Runkus and dub and roots reggae artist Jesse Royal.

In late summer 2026, The Skints release their new album Sour Tooth. The accompanying tour brings them to Simplon in Groningen.
