Shearwater (USA) + Loma (USA) + Any Kind (USA)

Loma and Shearwater share a remarkable amount: songwriter Jonathan Meiburg and engineer/producer Dan Duszynski are members of both bands, both hail from Austin, Texas, both release their music through the Seattle-based label Sub Pop - and both have a third member named Emily (Emily Lee in Shearwater, Emily Cross in Loma).

Yet they are clearly two different bands. Cross's restrained, enveloping voice is central to Loma, whose pastoral debut from 2018 inhabited a very different world than Shearwater's more extroverted Jet Plane and Oxbow from that same year. Since then, both groups have released two more albums: Loma followed their self-titled debut with Don't Shy Away (2020) and How Will I Live Without A Body? (2023), while Shearwater released The Great Awakening (2022) and The New World (2026).

Yet neither band has played live since 2018. Meiburg calls it a confluence of circumstances: "The pandemic scrambled everything, and members of both groups left the country. Suddenly putting together a tour felt almost impossible, and it took a while to come back from that." The joint tour is partly practical in nature - "touring's way more expensive these days," Meiburg admits - but Cross says it also appealed to her artistically: "We've got six musicians, and we play different roles in the groups, so it's like being in a theater company putting on two separate plays."

The shows are opened by Any Kind, Duszynski's solo project.
