Amadou & Mariam: The Blind Couple from Mali (2026): Presented by Steppin' Into Tomorrow
Together with Amsterdam's music platform Steppin' into Tomorrow, Melkweg presents the documentary 'The Blind Couple from Mali'. The film follows the remarkable duo Amadou & Mariam as they work on their final album and perform a concert in their home country Mali, troubled by internal tensions. Since the 1980s, they have reached millions of people worldwide and became the face of modern West African music.
The album 'L'Amour À La Folie' was released posthumously in October, following Amadou's death in April 2025. In March, Mariam performed a concert at the Max. The documentary tells a story of resilience and the unifying power of their music.
Note: Melkweg regularly hosts multiple programmes simultaneously, such as concerts and club nights. During the screening, there may be noise from other halls.
