About: Spain

Josh Haden built Spain in Los Angeles as a deliberate counterpoint to the city's chaotic 1980s punk scene, arriving at a sound that balances silence and tension with jazz, blues, and slowcore. The 1995 debut became a cult classic and caught the ear of Johnny Cash, who recorded 'Spiritual' for his American Recordings series.
