Musical storytelling theatre about finding light in darkness

Shortly after World War II, Jewish lawyer Salomon Zeitscheck searches for answers to reclaim his humanity. He lives in twilight, among the shadows of his lost loved ones. Through writing, he tries to find light in the darkness - within himself and in the world around him. He feels a kinship with the biblical figure Job, who lost everything yet remained unbitter. When Zeitscheck risks becoming trapped in his quest, an unexpected gift sets him on a completely different path.

'Schemermens' is based on the novella 'Three Red Roses' and the wartime diaries of Jewish author Abel Herzberg (1893-1989). The fictional character Salomon Zeitscheck is considered Herzberg's alter ego, who was imprisoned in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during the war.

Trio Wilde Eend performs classical music by Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius and Arvo Pärt, supplemented with Russian tango music and original compositions.
