Calcutta, 1948. Mother Superior Teresa anxiously awaits a letter from the Vatican that will grant her permission to establish her own religious order - a calling she has received from God, but also a radical step for a nun. Determined Teresa will not be deterred and prepares everything for her possible departure. When her intended successor confides a major secret to her, both her mission and their friendship come under strain.

Mother follows a decisive week in Teresa's life before she became world-famous. Director Teona Strugar Mitevska portrays her as a woman of flesh and blood who struggles with power and ideals - not a saint's legend, but a character study about autonomy, identity and sisterhood. The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
