Frans Grijzenhout is an emeritus professor of art history at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in Dutch and Flemish art of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He has written extensively on portraiture and cultural heritage. His research into the identity of the sitter in Johannes Verspronck's 'Girl in Blue' drew wide attention.
