Ester F. Mata is a trumpeter, composer and conductor, best known as the founder and director of 13 Ensemble. Her music draws on hypnotic minimalism, with an explicitly chord-free approach in which performers respond live to each other's cues and to electronic elements such as spoken word and everyday sounds. The ensemble's debut album *Traffic Is the New Silence* was released in 2025 on Honolulu Records.
