About

BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) is a seven-piece band from Soweto, South Africa, who started as a jam session outside a cultural centre in 2003. They blend indigenous funk, hip-hop and punk-rock energy with ancestral African traditions, singing in all eleven official languages of South Africa. In 2023 they received the prestigious WOMEX Artist Award, and The Guardian has called them "exhilarating", noting they have "shaken up South African music". Their relentless festival circuit - Glastonbury, Roskilde, WOMAD among others - has made them one of Africa's most celebrated musical exports.
