About

Azymuth is a Brazilian jazz-funk trio from Rio de Janeiro, founded in 1973 by bassist Alex Malheiros, keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami and drummer Ivan 'Mamão' Conti. They forged their own genre - 'samba doido' - by fusing jazz and funk with Brazilian samba rhythms, breaking through internationally with the album *Light as a Feather* (1979). Following the deaths of Bertrami (2012) and Conti (2023), Malheiros continues as the sole founding member alongside keyboardist Kiko Continentino and drummer Renato Massa. With over thirty albums and a lasting influence on acid jazz and dance music, they rank among Brazil's longest-running bands.

Azymuth released the album *Marca Passo* on June 6, 2025 via Far Out Recordings, supported by European and North American tours.

*Marca Passo* is the first full studio album since the death of founding drummer Ivan 'Mamão' Conti in 2023, featuring a tribute to him in the song 'Samba Pro Mamão'.

In December 2024, the limited edition vinyl single 'Arabutã' (Daniel Maunick Dub) was released via Far Out Recordings.

Azymuth is scheduled in the Netherlands in October 2026: on October 5 at Melkweg in Amsterdam and on October 6 at Bird in Rotterdam.

In autumn 2025, Azymuth toured Australia with Sabrina Malheiros, with shows in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
