Sem Konijn - Populisme de Musical (try-out)

Just a year after graduating from Codarts Muziektheater, Sem Konijn is already performing a full solo programme on Dutch stages. He is known for his roles in Cyrano, Scrooge and Je Anne - the latter earning him a Musical Award nomination for Best Emerging Talent - and for his song "Dit Moet Worden Gezegd", which went viral in Dutch media.

In Populisme de Musical, he combines political cabaret, satire, music and self-mockery to explore the appeal of populism. Why is anger so seductive? Why does the sharp one-liner so often beat nuance? And where is the line between democracy and division?

With humour and musicality, Sem creates a musical-theatrical reckoning of Dutch democracy and society. The show is confrontational and relatable, yet also hopeful: a call for gentleness in a time that seems to be hardening further.
