Hudson Freeman
Hudson Freeman called his 2025 debut album 'Is a Folk Artist' - a fitting title, though he's one of the most unconventional folk artists of his generation.
This young TikTok troubadour from the American Midwest crafts a melancholic blend of bedroom pop, folk, slowcore and post-emo. His music is shaped by a religious upbringing, moral struggles, fleeting friendships and a search for connection in a digital world.
His path to indie success is equally striking. As the child of two evangelists, he left a sleepy Texas neighbourhood at thirteen for the African mini-kingdom of Eswatini. Later, he abandoned his religious roots and moved to Brooklyn.
Freeman is a young global citizen with stories enough for several more albums, and he still travels constantly. This year he appeared at Luck Reunion, Newport Folk Fest and Into The Great Wide Open, and toured as support for Mumford & Sons and Foxwarren. On 15 February he brings his brand new album and full band to De Helling in Utrecht.
