Zienema: The Fly

Halloween is approaching, and Zienema celebrates with a gory Halloween special: David Cronenberg's The Fly.

In the film, scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) has built a teleportation machine consisting of two 'telepods'. The system transports inanimate objects without problem, but living creatures emerge horribly mutated. When Seth meets science journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis), they strike a deal: she can publish the story once the invention is ready for the world, and keeps it secret until then.

As their relationship shifts from professional to romantic, Seth finds a way to safely teleport living tissue. In his enthusiasm, he decides to use himself as the first human test subject - unaware that a fly has flown into the pod with him.

Feel free to come dressed up for the screening. No obligation, but in the spooky season it's certainly an opportunity to seize.
