Calle Málaga

Calle Málaga is the new film by Maryam Touzani (The Blue Caftan), exploring nostalgia, belonging, and rediscovering yourself later in life.

Maria, 74, leads a quiet life in the tight-knit Spanish community of Tangier, a Moroccan coastal town. Her world is turned upside down when her daughter Clara arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment where Maria lives. Maria refuses to be pushed out and fights for her home and her memories - and in doing so, discovers love again, much to her own surprise.

The film won the audience prize at the Venice Film Festival. Lead actress Carmen Maura became famous as the muse of Pedro Almodóvar and appeared in many of his early films. Deadline described Calle Málaga as 'a lovely ode to growing old but not giving in to age, to living life as it is meant to be lived - on your own terms'.
