Children's Neighbourhood Workshop: Nature Journaling

In this workshop, Carmen takes you outside to observe nature carefully and capture it in words and sketches. You don't need to be good at drawing or writing - curiosity is enough.

With a notebook in hand, you'll explore the park with a small group. By sketching, writing and observing closely, you'll create your own nature journal. The exercises help you find calm and notice small details, while learning to recognize plants and animals and developing your drawing and writing skills.

The workshops are accessible to children with different language backgrounds and levels. Simple, clear language is used, everything is demonstrated step by step, and translated where needed so everyone can participate.

Participation is free; registration is required. With a donation ticket you support Dokhuis and help keep other events free. Note: register your child separately for each session via the registration links on the programme page.

About Carmen
Carmen José is an illustrator, teacher and organizer with a passion for connecting people and the earth. Through her artistic practice, she guides children and adults to connect with nature and their surroundings.

About the Children's Neighbourhood Workshop
The Children's Neighbourhood Workshop is an art programme at Dokhuis for primary school-age children (4-12 years), built around the theme of your surroundings. During weekly workshops, art is used to bring children into contact with the world around them in a sensory and creative way - nature, buildings, people and other creatures. Parents are warmly welcome to participate actively.

The programme works with monthly themes. October's theme is transition, with the following sessions:
- 7 October - Making city animal masks
- 14 October - Catch the light!
- 28 October - Nature journal
