Sirico

Sirico is a Netherlands-based duo of Omar Abu El-Hana and Omar Shendy, combining oud and piano. Their programme - The New Wave of Arabic Music - draws from the work of composers and singers such as Umm Kulthum, Fairuz and Ammar El Sherei, as well as from the repertoire of a new generation of creators.

Through their own arrangements and improvisation, with influences from contemporary chamber music, they give familiar melodies from the Arab world an intimate and expressive form. The oud and piano engage in a dialogue between tradition and innovation.
