Halloween: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
"Who will survive and what will be left of them?"
A group of young people drive through rural Texas in a van to visit a relative's grave after reports of grave desecration. On the way, they pick up a strange hitchhiker, whom they throw out of the van after he cuts himself in his hand. Arriving at the isolated family house, the neighbouring farm turns out to be inhabited by a family of cannibalistic murderers - including the notorious Leatherface, the psychopath with the chainsaw. One by one, the friends fall victim to the murderers, until only Sally remains. Her desperate escape is considered one of the most famous finales in horror film history.
Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) is regarded as the benchmark of modern horror and slasher cinema. With minimal resources, Hooper created a raw, documentary-like style that influenced generations of filmmakers. Surprisingly, there is very little blood: the film works primarily through tension, suggestion, and a powerful soundtrack. Leatherface, the murderer with the mask of human skin, became one of the most recognizable figures in film history.
On the occasion of this classic's 50th anniversary, Jan Doense releases the film again in a brand new 4K restoration.
