Children's Neighbourhood Workshop: City Animal Masks

Which city animal is hiding deep inside you? During this workshop, children explore Rotterdam's urban wildlife with Femke, create their own masks from real autumn leaves and imaginative materials, and discover what powers humans and animals share.

Are you as quick and nimble as a city squirrel? As bold and alert as a heron or fox? Or would you rather transform into a mysterious hedgehog preparing for winter hibernation under a pile of leaves? Once the mask is on, the transformation is complete - and the children show off their new powers in an animal parade.

The workshops are accessible to children with different language backgrounds and levels. Simple, clear language is used, everything is demonstrated step by step, and translated where needed. Parents are warmly welcome to participate actively.

Participation is free; registration is required. Those who purchase a donation ticket support Dokhuis and help keep other events free. Note: register your child for each session separately via the registration links on the programme page.

About Femke
The workshop is led by Femke van Heijningen, artist, ceramicist and art educator. Nature is central to her work - as inspiration and as a source of materials.

About the Children's Neighbourhood Workshop
The Children's Neighbourhood Workshop is an art programme at Dokhuis for primary school-age children (4-12 years), with a central theme: your surroundings. During weekly workshops, art is used to bring children into creative contact with the world around them - nature, buildings, people and other creatures in their neighbourhood.

The programme works with monthly themes. October focuses on transition, with the following sessions:

15 October - Catch the light!
27 October - Nature diary
