Globe Autumn School - Concert — Heuvellaan Hilversum, Hilversum
Description was written before the event

On Saturday, 17 October 2026, a chamber music concert takes place at Heuvellaan Hilversum as part of the Globe Autumn School "Around Johann Joachim Quantz". This ticket grants access to the concert.

The programme features solo and trio sonatas by Johann Joachim Quantz (1697-1773) - flautist, composer, flute maker and flute teacher to the Prussian King Frederick the Great - complemented by works by Georg Philipp Telemann, regarded in the 18th century as Europe's greatest composer. Hungarian traverso virtuoso and Quantz specialist Benedek Csalog performs alongside recorder and traverso player Sascha Mommertz and harpsichordist Marijn Slappendel in a programme of well-known and lesser-known works that could have been heard in Potsdam and Berlin.

Benedek Csalog studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Barthold Kuijken and won first prizes at Musica Antiqua Brugge and the Baroque Flute Artist Competition of the National Flute Association in Orlando. As a soloist he has performed across much of Europe and at festivals including the Holland Festival, Festival van Vlaanderen, Musicora Paris, the Stockholm Early Music Festival and the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik. Over the years he has collaborated with William Christie, Sigiswald Kuijken, Emma Kirkby and Barthold Kuijken, among others.

In 2017, Csalog launched the Quantz Project, a long-term recording initiative dedicated to Quantz's complete flute oeuvre - approximately 600 compositions. Brilliant Classics began releasing much of this repertoire on CD and digital platforms in 2023; the first two volumes have appeared and volume 3 (double CD) will be released soon. Over the next two years, approximately twelve double albums are expected.
