Retro Rewind — De Volharding, Haarlem

An evening dedicated to the 1980s, organized by Underground Club Dwiezels in the Smedestraat - the club formerly known as De HAK. Haarlem native Ro Krom (1969) grew up in an era of doom-thinking, cruise missiles, squatting, and a thriving Haarlem club scene with venues like De Sneeuwbal, Etcetera, Zero, Het Melkwoud, Patronaat (founded in 1984), Club Stalker, and Hal 5. That era sets the tone for the evening.

On the dance floor you'll hear tracks like "A Forest" by The Cure, "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" by The Clash, "Why Did You Do It" by Stretch, and "Blue Monday" by New Order - alternative music in the broadest sense, from the years before house and hip-hop took over. Former owner Marc Heule and former DJ Robert Brandjes spin the records.

In between, there's music bingo (Batcave Bingo) hosted by Rudi 'Gotcha!' De Graaff, with prizes from Dwiezels, Slachthuis, Patronaat, Vinyl Festival, and Vinylfreaks. Chis Stevenet's photobooth is on site, and Mike van de Lagemaat provides visuals featuring images that capture the spirit of the decade.
