Passionate Spain - Pau Figueres, Laura Marchal & Dutch Chamber Orchestra
Openluchttheater Valkenburg, Valkenburg aan de Geul (LB)
The Dutch Chamber Orchestra travels to Spain with guitarist Pau Figueres and singer Laura Marchal. The programme features Joaquín Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez and Manuel de Falla's El amor brujo.
The Concerto de Aranjuez - inspired by the royal palace gardens of Aranjuez - has become one of the most performed guitar concertos in the world. Pau Figueres performs the work together with the orchestra. This is followed by the orchestral version of El amor brujo, conducted by Bogdan Božović. This ballet, based on Andalusian flamenco, tells the story of a young woman who uses song, dance and magic to conjure the spirit of her deceased beloved. Between the orchestral sections, Laura Marchal and Pau Figueres perform flamenco numbers for voice and guitar.
The evening is presented by Jet Berkhout, known from Jets Vrijdagshow on NPO Klassiek and as a finalist of De Slimste Mens.
