WILHELMUS - Valerius, Veere and the National Anthem

In the centre of Veere, a statue has stood since 1979 with the inscription ADRIAEN VALERIUS and NEDER-LANTSCHE GEDENCK CLANCK 1626 on its base. A plaque beside the monument reads: 'Adriaan Valerius *ca. 1570-+1625. Zeeland writer and poet. Notary and civic magistrate in Veere.'

This exhibition explores the life and legacy of Adriaan Valerius, the Zeeland writer and poet who compiled the Dutch national anthem 'Wilhelmus' in his 1626 collection 'Neder-Lantsche Gedenck Clanck'.
