As the festive season approaches, Bibliotheek Neude screens the classic It's a Wonderful Life (1946). James Stewart plays a man facing financial hardship who considers jumping from a bridge to cash in his life insurance - until an angel changes his mind.

The screening is preceded by an introduction from filmmaker Maarten Peels.

From the idealistic senator in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington to the haunted detective in Vertigo, James Stewart (1908-1997) shaped the moral imagination of Hollywood's golden era. Off screen he was a decorated combat pilot who flew twenty missions over Europe during World War II.
