Midwife

Madeline Johnston is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer based in southern Colorado. Her project Midwife began in 2014 during a residency at the DIY venue Rhinoceropolis in Denver, where she has spent more than a decade refining her sound.

Johnston describes her music as "Heaven Metal": emotional songs about destruction and grief in all its forms. On record, she builds layered, lush soundscapes; live, she is known for a sparse, emotionally charged approach that brings a room to silence.
