Scott Hamilton & The Ghost, The King and I

American tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton performs with the Dutch trio The Ghost, the King and I - Rob van Bavel (piano), Vincent Koning (guitar) and Frans van Geest (double bass) - joined by three South Korean string players: Hyemi Kim and Jieun Kim (violin) and Sohyeon Park (cello). The programme centres on the live album "The Ghost, the King and I, featuring Scott Hamilton & Strings", recently released. The album features standards by Cole Porter, Phil Woods, Antônio Carlos Jobim and others, alongside an arrangement of a composition by Sergei Rachmaninov.

Scott Hamilton has recorded over a hundred albums and worked with virtually all the major jazz musicians of his generation. Discovered by Roy Eldridge, he toured at a young age with Anita O'Day, Hank Jones and Benny Goodman. Later he played in the Concord All Stars and the Concord Super Band, alongside artists such as Tony Bennett, Gerry Mulligan, Rosemary Clooney, Jake Hanna, Woody Herman and Buddy Tate. In the Netherlands he has performed with Pim Jacobs and Rita Reys, Toots Thielemans and Rob van Bavel.

Rob van Bavel studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory, won second prize in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition and can be heard on over two hundred albums. Vincent Koning studied guitar at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the Hilversum Conservatory. Frans van Geest, inspired by Ray Brown and also trained in Hilversum, has accompanied dozens of American and European jazz musicians and is a co-founder of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Hyemi Kim, Jieun Kim and Sohyeon Park perform together as Salon de Musique.

This concert is part of the Friday Night Jazz series at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, made possible by the Stichting Jazz at the Club and Podium De Nieuwe Kamer.
