Pianist and vocalist Sanna van Vliet presents her bigband: Something about Sanna Bigband. Her trio - featuring bassist Sven Schuster and drummer Joost Kesselaar - is expanded with the Amstel Big Band under the direction of Kurt Weiss. The repertoire consists of compositions by Sanna van Vliet and Sven Schuster, specially arranged for bigband by arrangers Rob Horsting, Marius Beets, Ilja Reijngoud, Chris Muller and Sven Schuster.
This concert is part of the Friday Night Jazz series at Leonardo Royal Hotel and is made possible by the Stichting Jazz at the Club and Podium De Nieuwe Kamer. The restaurant offers a special menu before the concert. Doors open at 19:30, the concert starts at 20:00. Tickets cost € 20.
Sanna van Vliet studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, toured worldwide and released six albums under her own name. She performs with her ensembles Something about Sanna, the Sanna van Vliet Trio and Sannavan, and has previously played with musicians including Marius Beets, Wouter Hamel and Peter Bernstein.
Sven Schuster is bandleader of the Amstel Big Band, and also works as a teacher, arranger and composer. He studied in Graz at the Musikhochschule and in The Hague at the Royal Conservatoire, and played with musicians such as Han Bennink, Jim Hall and Mel Lewis. Joost Kesselaar studied at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, and took additional lessons with drummer Jeff Hamilton in Los Angeles. He has accompanied musicians including Michiel Borstlap, Kenny Wheeler and Joe Lovano. Kurt Weiss is from America, affiliated with the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, and active as a trumpeter, arranger and conductor.
The Amstel Big Band consists of (semi-)professionals and students from the jazz department of the Royal Conservatoire.
