Paradox Jazz Orchestra

The Paradox Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band. Under the leadership of drummer Kenny Clarke and pianist/arranger Francy Boland, this ensemble grew in the 1960s into a trans-Atlantic formation that combined American hard bop energy with European big band arrangements.

The programme explores that rich repertoire, featuring powerful brass sections, lyrical solos, and layered arrangements - faithful to the Clarke/Boland sound while allowing room for contemporary interpretation.

The Paradox Jazz Orchestra is the house orchestra of Paradox and consists of top jazz musicians from the Netherlands and Belgium. The group was founded in 2019 by conductor/saxophonist Jasper Staps and trumpeter Teus Nobel. Previous programmes have featured music by Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, and Miles Davis; each concert night embraces a different theme. The debut album Remembering The Skymasters was recorded at Paradox.

The evening follows the regular Create & Play format: a public rehearsal at 19:00, followed by the concert at 21:00. One ticket grants access to the entire evening.
