Maria Magdalena - Matzer

When her partner JC falls into a coma, Maria Magdalena unexpectedly takes over their tech company Internal Nurture, which deals in spirituality. What began as a shared dream about meaning and connection turns into disillusionment: the eleven male partners frame her empathy as weakness, her vision as naive. Her decisions are undermined, her leadership questioned, and pressure to be 'rational' mounts. Between hospital visits and board meetings, Maria fights to stay true to the original mission - building a company based on trust, community, and human values.

In this contemporary retelling, Maria Magdalena stands not in the shadow but at the centre. The production connects the classical story with themes of patriarchy, power play, historical representation, and the question of how women survive in a system not designed for them. It is the directorial debut of Manoushka Zeegelaar Breeveld, who puts it this way: "If we stop imposing the male path on women, we get a richer way of living together. Probably a more loving one."
