Claying Futures — De Boomtoren, Utrecht

Spend an afternoon shaping clay, fermenting, and sharing stories at De Boomtoren in Utrecht.

Under the guidance of artist Sunjoo Lee, you will create fermentation vessels from clay - containers that preserve not only fermented products, but also stories, recipes, and shared experiences. You will engrave your vessel with memories and knowledge that are meaningful to you, so your presence becomes literally part of the making process. Together, you will explore what rituals of exchange these vessels can inspire in the future.

After the workshop, the clay vessels are fired and glazed. They will then be brought together in a small community library at Hof van Cartesius, where they can be filled and exchanged with fermented and pickled products - creating new stories and connections.

This workshop is part of Planting Seeds for Biodiversity Futures, a collaboration between CCU and the University of Twente. In earlier sessions of this series, kimchi was fermented and pickles were made as ways to reconnect with each other and nature. No experience is needed - curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty are enough.
