About

Trafassi is a Surinamese-Dutch band founded in 1981 by singer-percussionist Edgar 'Bugru' Burgos and former members of The Happy Boys, the backing band of Lieve Hugo. The name is Sranan Tongo for 'a different way', which neatly captures their sound: a blend of kaseko, soca, calypso, reggae and pop, sung in Dutch, English and Sranan Tongo. Their 1985 breakthrough 'Wasmasjien' spent eight weeks in the Dutch Top 40, peaking at number ten. Over four decades, Trafassi has remained one of the most enduring Surinamese-Dutch acts, playing everything from Lowlands to Pasar Malam.
