Lola (1961) is Jacques Demy's debut feature, shot in his hometown of Nantes. The film follows a cabaret dancer waiting for her lost love to return, and introduced the recurring characters and themes that would run through all of Demy's later work. It is widely regarded as a key film of the French New Wave.
