Fuse and Kinan Azmeh blend Syrian clarinet with electronic music in a distinctive concert collaboration.
Kinan Azmeh (Damascus, 1976) is a Syrian clarinetist and composer whose playing draws on classical training, jazz, and Arabic musical traditions to create a sound entirely his own. He studied at the Damascus High Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, and holds a doctorate from the City University of New York. A member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silkroad Ensemble and artistic director of the Damascus Festival Chamber Players, he has performed at venues from Carnegie Hall to the Berliner Philharmonie, and in 2021 was appointed by President Biden to the United States National Council for the Arts.
Azmeh treedt in februari 2026 meerdere keren op in Nederland met het New European Ensemble, in Utrecht, Enschede, Den Haag en Tilburg.
In januari 2026 premièret Azmeh een nieuw klarinetconcerto met het Symphonia Orchestra in Boca Raton, Florida.
Op 28 februari 2025 verschijnt het livealbum Live in Berlin van Kinan Azmeh & CityBand via Dreyer Gaido.
In april 2025 keert Azmeh met CityBand terug naar de Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlijn als onderdeel van een Duitslandtournee rond Live in Berlin.
In oktober 2025 speelt Azmeh met CityBand in San Antonio als onderdeel van de Live in Berlin-releasetournee.
