About

Ilja Reijngoud (Leiden, 1972) is a Dutch jazz trombonist, composer, arranger and educator regarded as one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. He graduated cum laude from the Hilversum Conservatory and in 1997 became only the second Dutch student to earn an American Master of Music degree. His awards include the Thelonious Monk BMI Composition Award, an Edison and the Singer Laren Jazz Award. Alongside his permanent seat in the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, he has led the Codarts Big Band in Rotterdam and the Monday Big Band at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam for over two decades.

    Reijngoud released the duo album 'Peace' together with guitarist Ed Verhoeff under the name The Art of Two, recorded in February and May 2025.

    The album 'The New 21 Trombones', a collaboration with bass trombonist Martin van den Berg, was released on April 25, 2025.

    The Codarts Bigband under Reijngoud's direction performed with singer Pearl Jozefzoon in Culemborg.

    The Codarts Bigband performed under Reijngoud's direction at a concert at Podium aan Zee with guest soloist Nils van Haften, focusing on works by Dutch composers.
